Engine

The engine is a 331 stroker.  I began with a new Ford 302 block with 2-bolt mains.  It was bored +.030 with torque plates, align honed, and decked.  The list of engine components is in the box to the left.

After I got the block back from the machinist, I cleaned it thoroughly and then painted the front and valley areas with Glyptal.

Anthony then installed the crank and torqued the mains

I took the time to polish the pistons to a mirror-like shine.  There is a theory that the smooth polished surface helps prevent carbon buildup.  Even if its not true, they sure look nice!

ARP head studs in place of the OEM head bolts for added strength

Comp Cams' Magnum 1.6:1 roller rockers atop a set of Edelbrock Victor Jr. aluminum cylinder heads

And topped off with a set of Holman-Moody aluminum valve covers that I painted with ceramic black paint, then sanded off the fins and letters.

The oil pan is a custom unit made by Armando's Racing Oil Pans.  It is a replica of an orignal GT40 oil pan and holds 8 quarts of oil.  I took the time to polish it to a mirror finish.

ATI "Rattler" harmonic balancer and Jeg's billet adjustable timing pointer...

My "bundle-of snakes" exhaust system from ERA...

I got my Weber 48 IDA setup on Monday, 6 November '06!!  I bought them through Very Cool Parts (www.verycoolparts.com) in Enterprise, AL.  They are sweet looking.  I had Red Line Weber set them up to match my engine's spec.  This gives me a base line from which a little fine tunning will be all that is needed.

Installed on the engine...

Fuel lines, pressure gauge, and air filters added...

My son Anthony, my stepson Mike and I installed the engine in order to check fit, clearances, and to measure for the axles.  It took us nearly 5 hours to get it in.  We had to remove the rear clip, the rear bulkhead and the spider.

Transaxle

With my pursuit of originality, I decided to go with a ZF transaxle.  Although not the same configuration as the original, it is a ZF nonetheless.

I bought the ZF from someone on the Internet for what I thought was a good price - $7000.  I was told it was freshly rebuilt and ready to go.  I quickly snapped it up.

About 9 month after receiving it, I decided to take it to RBT Transmissions in Anaheim, CA to have it checked out.  Lo and behold, it was a POS!  The synchros were shot, the ring and pinion scored, and 5th gear was toast.  And to top it off, the case was cracked in 4 places, welded, and spray painted silver to cover up the rework.  I was not at all pleased and contacted the person who sold it to me.  Well, you can guess the outcome of that conversation.

11 months later and $4,377 poorer, I have it completely rebuilt.  I had the new case completely polished.  I think it will look great next to the black chassis.

Complementing the polished transaxle is a fully polished aluminum bellhousing from Kennedy Engineered Products

And the engine installed for the (hopefully) last time

I had the headers re-ceramic coated black for the "I mean business" look...

I installed a Canton remote oil filter mount.  There is no room for an oil filter to mount in the stock location.
